Dry-stone Walling is the 'art' of building stone walls without mortar.
Retaining walls, free-standing garden walls, stone fences, and artistic
installations all over the world use this technique.
When you think of old
stone walls in New England or the European countryside, you are thinking
of 'dry-stone walling'.
Stone constructions built in this fashion will provide generations of strength, function, and
beauty
unrivaled by any other form of landscape construction. There are walls, built
with this technique, all over the world that have been standing for centuries with little
or no maintenance.
Dry-stone
Walls:
-
Don't
require concrete footings and minimal excavation for free standing walls.
-
Allow
for the harsh freeze/thaw cycles in Michigan.
-
Can
be less expensive than mortared stone walls.
-
Smaller
carbon footprint than mortared stone walls.
